This is one of
those facilities that I would classify as a dance hall rather than a
ballroom. It is multi-funtional, hosting everything from dances to
wedding receptions, fish frys, auctions and other community activities.
It was built in 1949-1950 by the local Am Legion Post and the returning veterans of WWII. It is still home to the Legion and various community organizations. It has a nice wooden (oak) dance floor and would be comfortable for a crowd of 150 (seating and dancing), but I would guess it could accomodate 3-4 hundred if you really like to get to know your neighbor. Again I say, we all need to get out and support the Atkins Memorial Union and other dance venues in Iowa. |
